Adobe Flex

May 05, 2007

I was considering using Adobe Flex for a search application. At first glance it looks great! You can use “Ajax” like features (no page refresh) and it is limited only to what Flash can do (a lot). I found a great resource on “What is Adobe Flex?” It outlines the great things about Flex and I must say that there is compelling reasons to use it.

I wouldn’t want to use it though because of page load time:

“Because Flex applications are thin clients, and not web pages they’re not suitable for where you want to use a web page. I.e, there is an initial load and intialization that occurs when running a flex application initially, so the user could have to wait 5-10 seconds as the application gets set up, and once its loaded you’re rocking and rolling. Similar is the case with desktop applications.”

That is certainly enough reason for me to hold of on using Adobe Flex.
